Customer Accounts Specialist I

Department: Customer Accounts
Location: Grand Rapids, MI

This is a full-time, hybrid position. Pay is $19.65/hr

SUMMARY: Responsible for ensuring excellent responsiveness to customer inquiries regarding payment, insurance, membership and/or general information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure daily customer happiness
  • Responsible for answering patient inquiries via phone or in-person
  • Placing phone calls to customers and facilities to obtain insurance or demographic information
  • Verify insurance coverage via insurance websites or phone calls to insurance companies
  • Research returned mail to make necessary changes to correct patient insurance and/or demographics
  • Enter patient correspondence into the patient account
  • Provide support for the yearly membership renewal and application process
  • Must follow HIPAA guidelines at all times to protect customer PHI
  • Other projects and duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must have a minimum of one year of previous customer service experience.
  • Ability to type 40 WPM.
  • Excellent phone etiquette.
  • Accurate, basic typing skills and computer operation knowledge including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must pass all Life EMS pre-employment requirements as outlined on the Conditional Offer of Employment
  • Must demonstrate positive, respectful behavior in dealing with people at all levels.
  • Must be interviewed by a Life EMS designee.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination highly encouraged

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally required to stand;
walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs;
balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
